Unique Caribbean experiences to add to your bucket list

Martinique produces approximately 10 million litres of rum annually. Agriculture rum (rhum agricole) is the main type — as opposed to industrial or molasses rum — and is derived from fermenting the cane juice before distillation. With a strong rum heritage — rich volcanic soil, sugar robust cane production, and a bottling industry — Martinique’s rums are among the finest in the French Caribbean. White rum (rhum blanc) is unaged; dark rum (rhum ambré or paille) aged for at least 18 months; and old rum (rhum vieux) for at least three years in oak barrels. Plunge into the historical journey of rum at Saint James Rum Museum (pictured). It’s rum o’ clock!
