Learn more about how the two organisations work together to serve the needs of Caribbean people
For more than 20 years, the Sandals Foundation and United States-based volunteer group, Great Shape! Inc have served families in the Caribbean, providing free quality dental and eye-care services to more than 350,000 people through the annual 1000 Smiles and iCare clinics.
Through a powerful display of volunteerism, thousands of local and international medical practitioners and students help to brighten smiles and improve the sight of the young and old in the rural communities of Jamaica, Barbados, Turks and Caicos Islands, The Bahamas, Antigua & Barbuda, Grenada, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
Services of the iCare clinics include free eye care exams, glasses, surgery, and health screening while the 1000 Smiles dental clinics offer cleanings, fillings, extractions, root canals, and oral surgeries as needed. This year, in Jamaica for the first time, the team has taken it a step further by implementing a mobile laboratory, making prosthetic teeth for those in need.
