One last look of distinct Caribbean landscapes and experiences

In Puerto Rico, jíbaros and jíbaras are iconic cultural symbols representing self-reliant, hardworking people — particularly those in or from rural and mountainous areas. Every December, the districts of Quebradillas and Comerío celebrate their heritage with Jíbaro festivals, sometimes including lights. Festival-goers relish dressing up in traditional Jíbaro attire, like men wearing long-sleeved white shirts and pants with fringeless hats; and jíbaras donning white blouses or dresses along with a headwrap. There are myriad colourful variations, of course. Traditional Jíbaro dishes like pastelles and mofongo; Jíbaro music; and artisanal crafts are some of the festivals’ highlights.
